The largest oil and bitumen deposits were discovered in Uzbekistan
The largest deposit of viscous oil and bitumen, Yangi Uzbekistan, was discovered in the Zerafshan depression. The project was implemented by our partners Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (SEG) and the oil exploration company Kontiki-Exploration.
Reserves of the Yangi Uzbekistan deposit are estimated at 100 million tons. The start of the project is dated May 15, 2021 - the start of drilling the first exploratory well. Drilling work is carried out on the border of Samarkand and Navoi regions, and the depth of evaluation and production wells ranges from 400 to 750 meters.
By 2025, the maximum annual level of bitumen oil production is predicted to be 1 million tons.
For the production of hydrocarbons by SEG, a number of international oil service companies have already been involved in the project, including:
McDANIEL (Canada), BYIS Manufacturing (USA), O'NEILL Industries (USA), GenOil (Canada), Energy and Engineering (Russia), Veraton I.T.C. (Russia), Kazan Federal University (Russia)
“Today we were able to increase production from 425 to 500 thousand tons per year. Development of the Yangi Uzbekistan field is guaranteed to lead to a significant increase in this figure. Thus, Uzbekistan in the near future will be able to reduce imported crude oil and produce refined products from its own raw materials ", noted Shokir Faizullaev, General Director of Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (SEG).
Currently, to determine productive thicknesses and delineate deposits of bitumen and oil, prospecting and exploration work is being carried out, as well as pilot work to determine the production method.
